Have you ever wondered what's so special about handmade soap? You're probably thinking "yes I know it's probably better but it's more convenient to just buy my $2 bar from the grocery store, or my super fragranced body wash from my local bath shop."
Though it is convenient to throw in that bottle of soap, or that bar of soap while you're shopping for your groceries for the week, here's the reason you should stop wasting money on commercial superstore bars of soap/body wash, and instead use natural handmade soap.
Reason #1 Ingredients
Next time you grab your a bar of soap from your local grocery store or bath shop look at the ingredients on the back of the box/container. Do you know what those ingredients are? You may reason "it's probably the scientific name for the ingredients," and though you may be right, when you finally decipher what all the scientific names are you'll find that you still wont know what the actual ingredients are. A lot of these ingredients are actually toxic chemicals that effect our health. This was the actual reason that we as a family here at Soap Etiquette decided to start making natural soap. After years of using store bought commercial soaps we each experienced sensitive dry skin, with a lot of scarring from dry unhealthy skin. Unfortunately we live in a world centered on money, and so quality is cut in order to make room for quantity. It's cheaper for these companies to use harsh chemicals as fillers and ingredients, therefore they make 100% profit off of consumers. A lot of the chemicals found in these commercial bars of soap can affect hormone levels, allergies, and asthma, and can cause neurotoxicity. These synthetic ingredients cause dry irritated skin, increase skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis and acne, age your skin, and have been linked to certain skin cancers. These commercial soaps also contain a lot of sulfates, parabens, and nasty skin irritating fragrances.
So now what does a natural handmade bar of soap contain? Natural handmade soaps contain natural ingredients that enrich the skin without the use of harsh chemicals, detergents, or preservatives. There are no added ingredients that are artificially made, the ingredients come from the earth. Natural bars of soap are made from ingredients such as coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, hemp oil, avocado oil, and the list goes on. They are also made with rich butters that leave your skin feeling soft and nourished such as Shea butter, and cocoa butter. Countless of people with skin conditions all agree that their lives changed after using natural handmade soaps.
Reason #2 Glycerin
Another reason to switch to handmade natural soaps is because they contain natural deposits of Glycerin. When soaps are made glycerin is created in the process, but yet you'll find that store bought commercial "moisturizing bars" are very high in cost. Reason being the glycerin that is in those soaps is extracted from other soaps and injected in to create more moisture. Natural bars of soap form their own healthy glycerin and do not need any injections. Glycerin is a byproduct of water, oils, and butters, so it remains in the soap. Heating up oils, and mixing with an alkali like lye, causes the glycerin to split away mixed with water, from these fatty acids to create the glycerin. After the chemical process takes place there is no more lye, but an actual bar of glycerin rich soap. Glycerin is an emollient that attracts the moisture to your skin and keeps your skin soft. As a result of natural soaps containing all their original glycerin deposits, you'll experience a rich bubbly lather that is so soothing to your skin.
